One of the challenges in corporate learning as well as in higher education is the cultural differences and abilities (learning) of each employee/student involved. Not only that, some also face generation gaps between lecturers/presenters/trainers and participants. Coupled with the current conditions that are completely uncertain and the “digital transmigration” that we have to do, the challenges we face are getting bigger.
“Cultural differences in teaching and learning” is a title from one of Prof. Gerard Hendrik (Geert) Hofstede’s paper. It was published in 1986 and the content is still very relevant to provide clues on how we can address the various challenges above.
From some of the research that we are currently developing at Kummara, we see the potential of games and game-based learning (as well as gamification) approaches to become a bridge between the various Cultural Differences (as well as the generation gap) that may exist. So that the existing cultural differences are not an obstacle to the learning process – on the contrary, it will enrich them.
If we can realize this together, we might be able to present an effective corporate learning process as well as higher education. Even better, we can expand it to transform the various learning processes in Indonesia to a better level.
